NIGERIA ELECTRIFICATION PROJECT (NEP)

Provided communications consultancy for a $550 million renewable energy project in Africa funded by the World Bank and African Development Bank (AFDB) with the goal to accelerate universal energy access. Provided communications support in developing communication strategies and materials to raise awareness about the benefits of renewable energy and promote its adoption. The Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP) is a Federal Government project supported by the World Bank with REA as the implementing agency. The project aims to increase electricity access to households and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), students, and patients at federal universities and university teaching hospitals throughout Nigeria. NEP is an innovative programme to catalyze off-grid development in Nigeria, through the provision of grant funding, detailed market data, and technical assistance. To support this, the Federal Government of Nigeria has secured funding from both the World Bank ($350m) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) ($200M). The World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) are partners to deliver the successful implementation of the Nigeria Electrification Project (NEP).

Presidential Power Initiative(PPI)

Worked as the Head of Communications for a grid infrastructure project in Africa. Developed communication plans and implemented various strategies to engage stakeholders and ensure smooth project implementation for the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), which is a Federal Government initiative aimed at addressing prevalent challenges in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI), which aims to modernize and upgrade power transmission and distribution infrastructure across. FGN Power Company was set up as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by President Muhammadu Buhari to deliver the PPI project in partnership with Siemens, and other Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Companies; and to source for financing and coordinate the implementation of the entire project. FGNPC has received $ 200 million from the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning as counterpart funding and to support its operations as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Energizing Education Programme (EEP)

Led Communications campaigns and developed communication materials to promote STEM education among girls, which will drive female participation as part of REA’s commitment to advancing gender inclusion and diversity in the power sector through STEM. A Female Student Internship Programme was established under the EEP (EEP STEM Programme) with the goal to provide hands-on practical experience to 20 female students from each of the beneficiary institutions, in the design and construction of power systems throughout the construction stage of the EEP projects, as well as to provide continued skill/ capacity building post the STEM Internship Programme. For EEP Phase III, a total of 160 Female students will be empowered through the EEP STEM Programme.

The EEP is a Federal Government of Nigeria initiative tasked with developing off-grid, dedicated, and independent power plants, as well as rehabilitating existing distribution infrastructure, to supply clean and reliable power to 37 Federal Universities and 7 affiliated University Teaching Hospitals. In addition, it will provide street lighting for illumination and safety, as well as world-class Renewable Energy Workshop Training Centres (WTCs) at each of the EEP beneficiary institutions.

Stakeholder Engagement

Led a communications campaigns to raise awareness about renewable energy in Africa. Developed engaging content, organized events, and collaborated with stakeholders to promote the benefits of renewable energy and encourage its adoption. Also, I have conducted formative research in rural communities to gauge the knowledge base of solar electricity, community energy needs, and expectations. With this information, I engage communities in dialogue to effectively educate them on NEP projects. Also, I have hands-on field experience traveling into rural communities with diverse cultures across Nigeria to conduct stakeholder engagement. So far, I have visited 280 communities without electricity access in 15 states to educate community members on the benefits of the project and get the buy-in and support of project stakeholders, which will prioritize project sustainability.

Event Planning and Media Engagement

Event planning and media engagement go hand in hand when it comes to creating successful and memorable experiences for projects. Whether it is a corporate conference, a product launch, a charity gala, or a project commissioning careful planning and attention to detail are crucial. Event planners work tirelessly to coordinate logistics, secure vendors, and create a seamless flow of activities. However, without media engagement, these events may go unnoticed or fail to reach their intended audience. Media engagement involves reaching out to journalists, influencers, and media outlets to generate buzz and coverage for the event. This can include press releases, media invitations, social media campaigns, and on-site media management. By combining event planning and media engagement, organizers can ensure that their events receive the visibility and recognition they deserve.
